Johnny Bob. A very memorable teacher. I frustrated him to no end with my math skills. He stuck with me and finally got through to me. I remember the HUGE paddle that he kept at his desk. (With holes drilled in it?). I never saw him paddle anyone, we respected him even without that paddle. Rest in peace and sing those glorious songs.

Judy let me wish you my upmost condolesences at the passing of John. This is Melissa Etchison. I was priveleged to be a part of the Homecome Choir for almost 8 years. I enjoyed my experiences and John was always so kind and respectful. I am so sorry about this for your family, I will be watching for John when I get to heaven and will join him in the heavenly choir. Melissa Etchison

I was deeply saddened to hear this news. My sincere condolences for the entire family. Mr. Roberts was my basketball coach/teacher for only one year. We had a magical basketball season 22-1. I was a benchwarmer but learned many life lessons around teamwork, discipline, and hard work. Also, taught me how to dress with pride and self respect “jacket and tie”, taught me how to have a proper haircut “flat top”, and made me a better student because bad grades meant no basketball. Mr. Roberts shared a poem with our team that I have carried with me for 35+ years. A Winner’s Creed If you think you are beaten, you are; If you think you dare not, you don’t; If you’d like to win, but think you can’t, it’s almost a cinch you won’t. If you think you’ll lose, you’re lost; For out in the world we find success begins with a person’s faith; It’s all in the state of mind. Life’s battles don’t always go to the stronger or faster hand; They go to the one who trusts in God and always thinks, “I can.”

Judy and family, Melissa and I were sorry to hear of Johns passing. John was my basketball coach and my math teacher in middle school. Our mutual interest in agriculture grew as he helped me get started in the beef cattle business as a youth. Years later we talked horses, as Melissa and I made our living with Standardbreds He was valued mentor and we will always remember him fondly. Dear Judy. I met you in Belleville when udel Janet Ronnie and heard the choir At St Matthews in Belleville Illinois. We all decided to join the choir. It changed our lives. Larry traveled with us later … our hearts are broken … sending much love. I will alwalys rememberr our time with the choir.
