Charles Wesley Shaffer, age 66 of Kinmundy, passed away on Sunday, March 31, 2024 at Helia Healthcare of Salem. Charles was born on October 3, 1957 in Salem, Illinois, the son of John W. and Ruby (Cantrell) Shaffer. Survivors include his sister, Susan Patterson and husband Gary of Kinmundy; a nephew Shane Patterson of Ames, Iowa along with his children Natalie and Olivia Patterson; and a nephew Luke Patterson and wife Tricia of St. Louis, Missouri and their children Cyrus and Georgia Patterson. He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Ruby; and two brothers, Sammy and James Shaffer. Charles was a member of the Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church. He graduated from Rend Lake College with his diesel mechanic certificate. He then went to work as a diesel mechanic at Fabick Caterpillar in Salem, and helped run his family farm. He enjoyed old and new farm equipment, model trains, and Illini Basketball. Charles also enjoyed spending time with his nieces and nephews. A gathering to celebrate the life of Charles Wesley Shaffer will be held on Saturday, April 6, 2024 at Crouse Funeral Home beginning at 10:00 am and concluding at Noon. Private entombment will be in Evergreen Cemetery in Kinmundy.
