Obituary of Ronald Ball

Ronald Eugene Ball, age 89 of Salem, passed away on Wednesday, March 20, 2024 at Odin Healthcare Center in Odin, Illinois. Ronald was born on August 7, 1934 in Salem, Illinois the son of Rev. Donald and Mabel (Rogers) Ball. He married Iris (Simpson) Ball on November 28, 1951 in Effingham, Illinois and they enjoyed 66 years of marriage before her passing on December 10, 2017. Survivors include his son, David Ball and wife Gayla of Salem; a daughter, Susan Hayes and husband Bryan of Pekin, Illinois; four grandchildren, Abby Hawkins and husband Patrick, Olivia O’Leary and husband Sean, Breanna Fryer, and Bethany Hayes; great grandchildren, Carleigh and Paisley Hawkins, and Marlana, Tobias, and Cora Fryer; a sister, Leta Homan of Mt. Carmel; and a sister-in-law, Clara Thomas of Salem. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; two sisters; and a grandson-in-law, Aaron Fryer. Ronald was a dedicated member of First Christian Church in Salem, where he served in many roles including Sunday School teacher. Ronald was a member of the Salem Fire Protection District for 40 years. He retired after a long career with the City of Salem, where he worked in various departments. Funeral services for Ronald Ball will be held on Sunday, March 24, 2024 at 3:00 p.m. at Crouse Funeral Home in Salem with Phil Martin officiating. Burial will follow at Paradise Cemetery. There will be a visitation on Sunday at the funeral home from 1:00 p.m. until the time of the service. Rites will be provided by the Marion County Fire Service Honor Guard. Memorial contributions can be made to First Christian Church Benevolence Fund and will be received at the funeral home.
