William “Bill” H. Kern passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family, listening to Bocelli and his favorite music, on the evening of Wednesday, November 15, 2023. Bill is survived by children: Melissa (David) Trandel and Tony Kern; grandchildren: Ava and Jude Trandel; sisters: Nancy (Wayne) Schaeffer, Judy Kinsella, Cindy (Richard) Zgol, Tonya (Don) Honea, Sue (Ozzy) Klufas; and a brother: Kevin Kern. Bill is also survived by nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews. Bill was preceded in death by his father William Kern and wife Nadine; mother Gloria Ostrodka and husband John; a brother: Johnny Lynn Ostrodka; and brother-in-law: Arnie Kinsella. Bill will be remembered for his huge heart, charismatic ways, storytelling, love and knowledge of music and zest for life. His family would like to extend a heartfelt thanks to Yvette, his primary caretaker and close friend. As well as, Jessica and his VA In-home health team, his ALS care team, and all the kind souls — far and near— who remained by his side and was there for him, in one way or another, throughout his battle with ALS. Bill was deeply grateful for the support and assistance he received from the VA and was passionate about doing whatever he could to help further research efforts for ALS. He was loved by all and will be immensely missed by many. Bill made whomever was in his presence feel special and as if they were the most wonderful person in the world. A virtue to live by and one in which he would encourage all of us to possess. Private family services for William “Bill” Kern will take place at a later date.
