Joan Presgrove, age 89 of Iuka, passed away on Thursday, August 31, 2023 at Twin Willows Nursing Center in Salem. Joan was born on March 6, 1934 in Iuka, Illinois the daughter of Gerhart and Lena (Miller) Schirr. She married Harold Presgrove in 1955 at the Bee Branch United Methodist Church and he preceded her in death. Survivors include her daughters, Rhonda Halfacre and husband Bill of Iuka and Cindy Merriman and husband Bill of Iuka; six grandchildren, Todd Halfacre and wife Katie, Jonathan Halfacre and wife Cara, Caleb Halfacre and wife Madison, Nicholas Halfacre, Ryan Merriman, and Ethan Merriman and wife Meagan; nine great-grandchildren, Ashton, Arthur, Olive, Walker, Ella, Alex, Adrie, Anna, and Macey; one brother, Robert Schirr of Salem; and one sister, Betty Brown of Kinmundy. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; one sister, Geraldine Hanks and husband Charles; one brother, G.F. Schirr and wife Dorothy; a brother-in-law, Otis Brown; and a sister-in-law, Shirley Schirr. Joan was a member of the Iuka United Methodist Church and was active at a youth leader at Bee Branch United Methodist Church for nearly 20 years. She worked various jobs during her life. She was a homemaker, and also worked at Brown Shoe Factory, the dress factory, and cleaned homes. Funeral services for Joan Presgrove will be held at 11:00 am on Wednesday, September 6, 2023 at Crouse Funeral Home in Salem. Burial will follow at Iuka Cemetery in Iuka, Illinois. There will be a visitation prior to the service from 10:00 am until the time of the service.
