Because of Mike's enthusiasm, we will always have our "Grouppe'" to remember. That's right "The Grouppe"! When Mike came home during Christmas vacation from Tennessee Tech, he rounded up the Grouppe to make a recording in Ribault Senior High School auditorium. Because of his drive to create something, that memory will be forever. He always knew what he wanted to do in life....music! He will be missed by anyone who has ever met him. RIP my friend!

Sorry for your loss. I grow up as a kid next to Mike or as we called him Mr. Register back in the 80's and early 90's. While in High School I had him as a teacher. I remember Mike was always out in the yard push mowing the entire lawn or playing with his dogs. As a teacher he put his heart and soul into everything he done. Matthew Akes

Mike along with many others had this love of music. We played in HS both as organized choirs and as trubador at local joints in Jacksonville. Jacksonvile was a tough town and Mike and all of us around grew up in a neighbor of baby boomer parents. We're were monetarily poor but the friendship we shared bonded all of us. We also realized that all people have worth and expanded on that both personally and politically. Once Mike graduated from College, jobs for music teachers were rare and the pay was low. So Mike worked in construction part time for a church choir. One Sunday when a family of African Americans tried to attend church (SBC) and heard the ushers shue them away, saying you have a church.... Mike walked out of that church before the service started. That was the caring person he was. And he lived that way all his life. I personally enjoyed conversation with him discussing life and our politics of which we shared similar traits. RIP buddy. I don’t recall if I ever Mike or not, but believe me I sang along to the Grouppe songs all through my childhood and even now. Reading my father’s tribute made me realize what a mark Mike made on my father, as he has the same loving, open heart that I know Mike had.

I pray for the family and friends of Mike Register. I am saddened by your loss of a great musician, husband and father. I knew him through Alvin Murphy, who was living upstairs at Mike's house, and attended parties there with Al. Then Mike conducted the Grace UMC choir I was in. He was a very nice man. Al told me many stories of the girls (how one tried to be the other but got caught by saying "Ewirka" because she couldn't pronounce her sister's name so well). May God be with you all. So sorry to hear of Mikes passing. He was a great teacher, mentor and friend. I learned so much by being in Chamber Singers and Jazz Singers in High School. My senior prom... I got beat out to sing Stairway to Heaven.... but....Billy Joels hit.." I love you just the way you are".. had just came out. Mike took off the chords... got a sax player and piano player... and set me up to sing Joels hit. Can't tell you how kool it was to Sing that song at prom and not Stairway to heaven. Mike had an impact on helping me get into Belmont College Vocal performance College. Can't tell you how much he did for me and all the other singers, musicians in our high school. Will keep family in my prayers. Mike will surely be missed. Lonnie Busby
