Della Bumgarner, age 89 of Salem, passed away on Thursday May 13, 2021 at Odin Care Center in Odin. Della was born on March 14, 1932 in Iuka the daughter of Orville and Lizzy (McDonald) Sampson. She married Marvin Eugene Bumgarner on July 16, 1949 in Salem and he preceded her in death on January 25, 2009. Survivors include her son, Marvin “Ed” Bumgarner of Salem; daughter, Anna Jewel Bumgarner of Salem; grandchildren, Jered Bumgarner and wife Kim of Paris, Audra Shepard and husband Craig of La Clede, and Diana Swanson and husband Shaun of Collinsville; great grandchildren, Dusten Shepard, Kaitlyn Shepard, Elijah Shepard, Ethan Shepard, Brayden Palmer, Aiden Bumgarner, Hannah Dziubanski, and Ariana Myers; siblings, Anna Snow of Iuka, and Richard Sampson and significant other Pat Hartley of Salem; several niece and nephews; and a special care giver, Ericka Owens of Iuka She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and siblings, Ruby Cox, Coy Sampson, Francis Cripps, Clarene “Jack” Sampson, and Dorothy Bumgarner. Della was a member of the Apostolic Church of Salem. She was a secretary and treasurer of the First Pentecostal Church for over 50 years. She loved the Lord and loved serving him to the max. She loved witnessing to others and inviting them to church. She was an avid altar worker and loved picking up kids for church and her car was always packed with kids. She was the dietary manager for Twin Willows until she retired. She was known as an awesome cook. She had three nieces that were a highlight to her, they lived in Joliet and every summer they would come and spend the whole summer with her and she placed a lot of morals in their lives. All of her nieces and nephews were very special to her and she loved them all the same. Funeral services for Della Bumgarner will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, May 21, 2021 at the Apostolic Church in Salem with Calvin Jean and Kevin Cox officiating. Burial will follow at the Iuka Cemetery in Iuka. There will be a vistiation at the church from 10:00 am until the time of service. Memorial contributions can be made to the Apostolic Church Building Fund and may be left at the Crouse Funeral Home who is assisting the family with arrangements.
