Obituary of Richard Edward Black

Richard Edward “Ed” Black, age 61 of Salem, passed away on Saturday, March 25, 2023 at his home with his family by his side. Ed was born on June 14, 1961 in Salem, Illinois the son of George Joseph “Joe” and Mary L. (Cunningham) Black. Survivors include his father, Joe Black of Salem; children, Justin E. Black of Salem, Rebecca A. “Becky” Vosholler and husband Tyler of Vernon, and Baylee M. Black of Salem; sister, Susan L. Gordon and husband Tom of Odin; grandchildren, Gabrielle “Gabe” and Elijah “Eli” Vosholler; several close friends; aunts; uncles; and cousins. He was preceded in death by his mother, Mary Black; grandparents, George and Angeline Black and Edna Marie Cunningham; special uncle and aunt, Gene and Margaret Yolton; uncle, Rich Black; and aunt, Shirley Dunn. Ed worked alongside his dad for many years, at the Joe Black Insurance Agency. He was a member of the Salem Presbyterian Church, Salem Lions Club, Marion Lodge #130 Ancient Free & Accepted Masons, and was a Shriner. He enjoyed golfing, camping, skiing, and cooking. Most of all he enjoyed the time spent with his kids and grandkids. Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 pm on Saturday, April 1, 2023 at Crouse Funeral Home in Salem with Denise Burke officiating. Burial will be in East Lawn Cemetery in Salem. Visitation will be held on Friday, from 4:00 pm until 8:00 pm at the funeral home. Masonic services and a Shriners walk though, which are open to the public, will be at 6:00 pm on Friday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the Salem Presbyterian Church and can be left at Crouse Funeral Home. Online condolences can be left at www.CrouseFH.com
