Michael G. Johnston, age 67 of Salem, passed away on Wednesday, February 22, 2023 at his home with his family by his side. Michael was born on June 27, 1955 in Fairfield, IL the son of Billy G. and Helen Marie (Bray) Johnston. Survivors include his daughter, Cheryl Puckett and husband Joel of Leesville, South Carolina; grandchildren, Dylan Michael Benson and wife Breanna, Alexandria Williams and husband Caleb, and Courtney Puckett; great-grandchildren, Ellis Jane and Ayden Benson; siblings, Jim Johnston of Joliet, Pam Craig and husband Richard of Glen Carbon, Sandy Blank and husband Don of Salem, Tammy Vandeveer and husband Mike of Alma, and Billy Johnston and wife Renee of Alma; and close friends and cousins, Vicky Rohr and Ricky McIntosh. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister-in-law, Susan Johnston. Michael was a long-time member of the Church of God in Salem. He worked for Wal-Mart as a stockman, maintenance man and fork lift operator for many years. He was a very loving grandpa and always looked forward to time spent with his grandkids. The family would like to thank Dan Keyes and SSM Hospice for their compassion shown over the last several weeks. There will be no public services. Crouse Funeral Home in Salem is assisting the family.
