Obituary of Roger Dale Aaron
Roger Dale Aaron, age 72 of Salem, passed away at 9:59 am on February 24, 2022 at Nature Trail Health and Rehabilitation Center in Mt. Vernon.
Roger was born on March 28, 1949 in Salem, the son of Boyd B. and Norma J. (Sellers) Aaron. He married Donna R. (Smith) Aaron for the second time on March 17, 2000 and she preceded him in death on January 4, 2016.
He is survived by his four children, Angela Gross and husband Lyle of Centralia, Rick Aaron of Centralia, Brad Aaron and wife Pam of Georgetown, and Derek Byers of Centralia; grandchildren, Matthew Gross and wife Alexis of Edwardsville, Kristen Gross of Centralia, Aaron Gross of Centralia, Justin O’Dell and wife Brittany of El Paso, TX, Dylan Aaron of Centralia, Sydnee Aaron of Centralia, Tristan Aaron of Georgetown, and Mason Aaron of Georgetown; great-granddaughter, Miranda O’Dell; sister, Alice Brown of Salem; aunt, Janet (Sellers) Rogers and husband Gene of Salem; neighbors, Wayne and Anita Bumgardner and Dale and Robin Davis; special friend, Deborah Bullard; nephew, Mike Brown of Smithland, KY; niece, Tabatha Bradley of Salem; and many great-nieces and great-nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; niece, Julie Brown; and several aunts and uncles.
Roger was a proud Vietnam Veteran serving in the Illinois Army National Guard. He received a Bronze Star for his service in Vietnam. He had a lifelong career in construction. His hobbies included, watching Nascar and Westerns, being a huge Dale Earnhardt, Sr. and John Wayne fan. He liked to go camping, helping friends with construction and home improvement projects, and most recently enjoyed having lunch with friends at Twisted Sisters in Kell. He was a member of the Salem Lutheran Church, the Mid-America Carpenters District Council and a past member of the Salem American Legion Post #128.
A Memorial Service for Roger Dale Aaron will be held on Thursday, March 3, 2022 at 6:00 pm at Crouse Funeral Home in Salem with Lee Gross officiating, followed by Military Rites by the Salem American Legion. Visitation will be from 4:30 pm until the time of the service. Memorials can be made to the Salem Animal Shelter and can be left at Crouse Funeral Home who is assisting the family.
