Nova Lenore Hays Baltzell, 93, Roanoke, Virginia, died on Saturday July20, 2019 at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital in Roanoke, Virginia. She was born on April 17, 1926 in Ewing, the daughter of Elijah and Rose (Elliot) Hays. On June 12, 1943, in Colorado Springs, CO, she married Rollin "Rosy" Baltzell and enjoyed 61 years of marriage, Lenore loved teaching and taught elementary school for many years in both Illinois and Louisiana. Lenore was a member of the First Baptist Church and one of her favorite bible verses was Isaiah 41:10. Survivors include: a daughter, Jean Baltzell Elkin and husband Roger of Virginia; a son, Tracy Kell and wife Sharon of Louisiana; grandchildren Cacia Tan Chico, Kiara Elkin (Jack Burns), Delaney Elkin, Jessica Millet (Ryan), and Jennifer Forsyth (Jimmie); and six great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Rollin; brothers, Harold and Ray; sister, Phyllis; children, Leonard Baltzell and Linda Devor. Funeral services will be held on Saturday July 27, 2019 at 2:00pm at the Roger-Atkins Funeral Home in Salem with Dr. Andy DeWitt officiating. Burial will follow in the East Lawn Cemetery in Salem. Visitation will be held Saturday at the funeral at the funeral home from 1:00pm until the time of the service. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you make donations to your favorite charity.
