Obituary of Lyle E. Black
Lyle E. Black, age 88 of Salem, passed away Saturday July 6, 2019 at his home in Salem.
Lyle was born on August 20, 1930 in Tonti Township, Illinois to Eugene Cecil and Nellie (Eagan) Black. He married Dorothy J. Wickersham on May 19, 1950 in Freeburg, Illinois and she preceded him in death on August 14, 2015.
Survivors include, 4 daughters, Nancy Hocking and husband Jerry of Irvington, Kathy Bergen and husband Jack of Centralia, Gayla Ball and husband David of Salem, and Carole Childers and husband Jim of Marion; grandchildren, Suzanne Petersen and husband Tim, Eric Hocking and special friend Shaina Squibb, Justin Bergen and wife Laura, Emily Lee and husband Sam, Abigail Hawkins and husband Patrick, Olivia Ball, Ben Childers, and Sam Childers; great grandchildren, Gabrielle, Elijah, Isaiah, Carleigh, Micah, SatieBre, and Karley; brother, Dean Black of Vandalia; and sister, Marie Towler of Patoka.
Lyle was preceded in death by his parent, his wife, and 4 brothers, Eugene, Jesse, Earl, and Frank.
He worked at Brown Shoe Factory and was a member of the Salem Assembly of God Church.
Funeral services for Lyle E. Black will be held on Wednesday July 10, 2019 at 10:00 am at the Salem Assembly of God Church with Rick Smith officiating. Burial will follow at East Lawn Cemetery in Salem. There will be a visitation on Tuesday at the church from 5:00-7:00 pm. Memorial donations can be made to the Salem Assembly of God Church and may be left at Rogers- Atkins Funeral Home who is in charge of the services.
