Ferne Louise Rhodes, age 93, of Salem, passed away on Sunday, March 29, 2020 at Odin Healthcare Center. Ferne was born on February 26, 1927 in Omega the daughter of Louis and Laura (Wooden) Presgrove. She married Benner Rhodes on June 14, 1974 and he survives in Salem. In addition to her husband, Ferne is survived by four children, Brenda Hodge and husband Mike of Salem, Steve Barrow and wife Mary of Centralia, Cecelia Lesso and husband Bill of Austin, TX, and Doug Bailey and wife Vickie of Salem; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; five step-children, Dave Rhodes, Patrice Jones, Mark Rhodes, Becky Robinson, and Jack Rhodes; two siblings, Max Presgrove and Maxine Presgrove and two sisters-in-law, Jo Ann Presgrove and Virginia Baldridge. Ferne was a member of the First Christian Church in Salem. She retired from Brown Shoe Factory and later worked for Farm Fresh. Due to the Coronavirus pandemic, a memorial service to honor and celebrate Ferne’s life will be announced at a later date. Crouse Funeral Home in Salem is in charge of arrangements. Memorial gifts can be made to the Parkinson’s Foundation and can be received at the funeral home.
