Obituary of George Arthur Blank
George Arthur Blank, age 96, of Salem, passed away on Wednesday, March 24, 2021.
He was born on November 21, 1924 at the family farm in Iuka, the oldest of five children to Louie and Clara (Gragert) Blank. He married Mary Frances Blank and she preceded him in death, he then married Norma Blank and she also preceded him in death.
He is survived by one brother, Ervin “Pat” Blank of Iuka; step-daughter, Katie Dodson; three step-daughters and a step-son from his second marriage, Jeannie Malone, Vicki Patterson, Chelle Reim and Bell Wooldridge; six nephews; one niece; and several step-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife Mary Frances Blank; a step-son he raised, Bill Vance; second wife, Norma; both parents; one brother, Earl Blank and wife Erwina; two sisters, Freda Quandt and husband Irvin and Mary Alice Pickett and husband John; and two special cousins, Robert Becker and Bill Borcherding.
George was a faithful lifelong member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Iuka. He had been a member of the choir, church men’s club, held several offices over the years and was the secretary/treasurer for Thrivent Financial for Lutherans for many years. He retired from Sealed Air/Jiffy Manufacturing after 26 years of employment. He served in the United States Navy from 1944-1946 on the island of Guam. George enjoyed his time at the Manor of Salem Woods who provided kindness and care for his four-year stay.
Funeral services for George Arthur Blank will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, March 27, 2021 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Iuka with Aaron Kangas officiating. Burial will be in the Trinity Lutheran Church Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 10:00 am until the time of the service. Memorials can be made to the Trinity Lutheran Cemetery Fund and can be received at Crouse Funeral Home in Salem who is assisting the family with arrangements.
