Catherine (Southard) Frederick-Payton, age 57 of Salem, passed away on Thursday, April 9, 2020 at Salem Township Hospital. She was on August 18, 1962 in Bloomington, Illinois the daughter of William E. and Lois (Schlayhahn) Southard and step father, James R. Holderly. On October 19, 2001 she married Andrew Payton and he preceded her in death on December 19, 2004. Survivors include her father, William E. Southard of Taylorville; her fiancé, Gary Akes of Salem; son, Chris Frederick and wife Jessica of Gallatin, TN; daughters, Jessica Harris and husband Blake of Salem and Amanda Dodson and husband Tim of Gallatin, TN; grandchildren, Brayden, Braxton and Baylor Harris, Dasney, Vanessa, Timothy and Bayley Dodson and Samuel and Simeon Frederick; sisters, Carolyn Gobel and husband Lenny of Taylorville and Cindy Southard of SC; and brothers, Shane Holderly and wife Wilma of Arkansas and Shannon Holdery. She was preceded in death by her mother, Lois Holderly and stepfather, James Holderly; husband, Andrew Payton and one sister, Sherri Moon. Catherine was a member of Gospel Lighthouse church in Odin and the American Legion Auxiliary. She was a dedicated CNA at Doctors Nursing Home for many years. She enjoyed spending time with her family and her friends. She was a friend to everyone and never knew a stranger. Memorial Services will be announced at a later time. Burial will be in Bell Cemetery in Iuka. Crouse Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
