Obituary of Carol Deon Smith
Carol Deon Smith, age 83 of Cartter, passed away at his home on Thursday, August 20, 2020 with his family surrounding him. He is now rejoicing in heaven with his Heavenly Father.
Carol was born on October 23, 1936 in Centralia, the son of Morris and Ruby (Phillips) Smith. He married Mary Louise (Matlock) Smith on November 17, 1955 in Centralia and she preceded him in death on April 26, 2008. On May 16, 2009 he married Marilyn (Hays) Little and she survives him in Cartter.
In addition to his wife Marilyn, he is survived by his daughter, Kathy Shaw and husband Ted of Salem; son, Keith Smith and wife Beth of Salem; daughter-in-law, Donna Smith of Salem; step-children, Kevin Little and wife Jennifer of Kell, Kent Little and wife Jennifer of Kell, Kathy Little of Huntington, WV, Kris Markotay and husband John of Kell and Kara Faires and husband Greg of Plantation, FL; one sister, Geneva Blankenship and husband George of Hillsboro; eight grandchildren, Matthew Cook, Kim Turner and husband Josh, Michael Cook, Craig Smith and wife Shannon, Kyle Smith and wife Paige, Kristi Sullins and husband Trey, Brittany Slater and husband Eric, Hannah Cook and Jordan Cook; eight great-grandchildren, twenty step-grandchildren and four step-great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Mary Louise Smith; one son, Terry Lee Smith; and one brother, Robert Dale Smith.
Carol was a longtime member of the Salem Free Methodist Church and later was a member of the Salem Assembly of God. He loved gospel singing, traveling, the outdoors, being generous and helping others. He worked as a carman for the Illinois Central Railroad which later became Metra Railroad.
Funeral Services for Carol Deon Smith will be held on Sunday, August 23, 2020 at 2:30 pm at the Salem Free Methodist Church with Rick Smith officiating. Visitation will be on Sunday from 1:30 until 2:30 at the church. Burial will be in Antioch Cemetery in Centralia. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the Salem Assembly of God and can be received at Crouse Funeral Home in Salem who is assisting the family with arrangements.
