Obituary of Claude Burdette Williams
Claude Burdette Williams, 84, of Salem, passed peacefully on Sunday, May 26.
Claude is survived by his sister, Janet Hoskins, his children Cheryl Marchello (Mark), Doug Williams (April) and Lynette Baity (Don Griffin). Claude was grandfather to Casey Hodge (Dustin), Claire Ellsworth (Nathan), Alyssa Williams, Joseph Marchello and Tyler Williams (Alissa). He had four great grandchildren.
Claude was preceded in death by his parents Claude A. and Nellie (Chandler) Williams, his wife Gladys (Brimberry), whom he married in 1957, and his brothers, Chuck and Larry.
Claude graduated from Kinmundy High School. He enlisted and served in the Air Force from 1956- 1960. He then worked in Salem at Dickerson- Davis and WJBD. He studied social work at Greenville College and worked for the state of Illinois in that field. He later worked as Personnel Manager for World Color Press and as Jail Administrator for Marion County before retiring.
Claude was a member of the Alma Christian Church. He was devoted to his family and loved traveling, camping, horseback riding, music and researching family history. He touched the lives and hearts of many in his lifetime. He will forever be remembered by those who loved him as a kind, caring, hard-working person. He will be greatly missed.
Graveside services will be held at 2:00 pm Friday, May 31, 2019 at Evergreen Cemetery in Kinmundy with Randy Van Ausdall officiating. Military rites will be accorded at the cemetery by the Salem American Legion.
