John Lowell Wyatt, 86, of Salem, died Thursday, May 30, 2019, at his home. John was born September 4, 1932, the son of Russell and Florence (Finn) Wyatt. On January 18, 1959 he married Georgia Darlene Fry. He was reunited in Heaven with his wife on May 30, 2019. John was a lifelong resident of Marion County IL. He was a graduate of Salem Community High School in 1951 and attended Southern Illinois University. He served in the Korean War, in Seoul, Korea, in the Physiological Warfare division of the Army. John is survived by two daughters, Angela Wyatt and Fiancé Ron Riley of Salem and Darla Wyatt Armani and husband Marcus Armani of St. Louis; two grandchildren, Gabriel Armani and Samara Armani of St. Louis; and many nieces and nephews. Upon returning from the Korean War, John returned to college. After a short career as a teacher, in Flora Illinois, John became a full time farmer. John joined his father with operations of the Wyatt Farm concentrating on livestock and orchards. It was there that he continued the operation of family orchards that had been started by his grandparents Fred and Ola Wyatt in 1895 until 2017 when John retired from farming. John and wife Darlene owned Grandma’s Front Porch in both Salem and Centralia and enjoyed traveling to craft shows throughout the Midwest. As an avid history buff, John enjoyed family ancestry and entertained his children and grandchildren with family stories and history. People who knew John commented on his warmth, loyalty and sense of humor. He was known as a good neighbor who was always ready to lend an ear or helping hand. Graveside services for John Lowell Wyatt will be held on Saturday, June 8, 2019 at 11:00am at East Lawn Cemetery in Salem, with Chuck Smith Officiating. Visitation will be ahead of the service from 10:00 am-10:45 am at Rogers-Atkins Funeral Home. Military rites will be accorded at the grave by the Salem American Legion.
