Helen Marie Johnston, age 80 of Salem, passed away on Saturday September 14, 2019 at the Odin Care Center. Helen was born on October 3, 1938 in Sprucepine, Alabama to Lloyd "Bunt" and Ira Ville (Thompson) Bray. She married Billy Gene Johnston on October 23, 1953 in Mt. Vernon and he survives. She was a homemaker and a member of the Church of God. Survivors include daughters, Tammy Vandeveer and husband Mike of Alma, Sandy Blank and husband Don of Salem, Pam Craig and husband Richard of Glen Carbon; sons, Billy Johnston and wife Renee of Alma, Jim Johnston and wife Susan of Joilet, and Mike Johnston of Salem; sister, Faye Nix of Odin; grandchildren, Ian King and wife Brooke, Abigail King, Jamie Johnston, Devonte Hill, Zoe Johnston, Cole Johnston, Kelly Kohrt and husband Pete, Kristin Merriman and husband Jason, Kim Pokrajac and husband Ron, Heather Craig, Ashley Craig, and Cheryl Puckett. Helen was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, O'Dell Bray. Graveside services for Helen Marie Johnston will be held on Tuesday September 17, 2019 at 11:30 a.m. at Elder Cemetery in Kinmundy with Larry Woodward officiating. There will be a visitation at Rogers- Atkins Funeral Home from 9:30 until 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday morning. Memorial contribution can be made to the Alzheimer's Association and can be left at the funeral home.
