Obituary of Stephen R. Thurman
Stephen “Steve” R. Thurman, age 49 of Centralia, passed away at his home on Sunday, August 30, 2020.
Steve was born on January 29, 1971 in Centralia, the son of William D. and Barbara (Dempsey) Thurman. He married Denise (Squibb) Thurman on April 25, 2001 in Jamaica and she survives in Centralia.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his parents, William D. and Barbara Thurman of Carlyle; two daughters, Raeann Thurman and Carissa Thurman both of Centralia; mother-in-law, Sharon Keck of Salem; step-mother-in-law, Carol Squibb of Jacksonville, IL; four aunts, Brenda Tinsley and husband Steve, Phyllis Branch and husband Doug, Angela Hill and Joyce Smith; two uncles, Dennis Thurman and wife Rhonda and Bruce Thurman and wife Patricia; brother-in-law, Dennis Squibb and wife Stephanie; sister-in-law, Debbie Wegeng and husband Mike; several nieces and nephews; and many special friends.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Ray and Marjorie Dempsey, William and Barbara Thurman and Bertha Smith; father-in-law, James Squibb; step-father-in-law, Dean Keck; and brother-in-law, Doug Squibb.
Steve worked for the last 16 years for the Canadian National Railway as a track foreman and had previously worked for Wheaton Plastic for 12 years. He was a member of The Rock Church in Centralia. Steve was an avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping. He enjoyed riding his Harley and tending to his koi pond. More than anything, he loved the time spent with his family, friends and all his animals.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, September 4, 2020 at The Rock Church in Centralia, with Steve Upchurch officiating. Visitation will be held on Thursday at the church, from 5:00 pm until 8:00 pm and again on Friday morning, from 10:00 am until the time of the service. Interment will be held at a later date. Memorials can be made to an education fund for his daughters’ college expenses, checks may be made to Denise Thurman and can be received at Crouse Funeral Home in Salem who is in charge of arrangements.
