I didn't personally know Dorene, but I stumbled upon her name in an old piano book, in fact, it was my mother's first piano book from 1962. My mom would have been 7 at the time. I would like to think that had Dorene not been around to teach my mother piano, I may never have been introduced to the piano in the early 80s. Music has been a big part of my life and I'm now teaching piano on the side as well as playing and singing at church and the occasional funeral or wedding. It's interesting how the ripple effect carries out from generation to generation. Also, Linda who commented on here was one of my first piano teachers at Samuel Music in Effingham, and Chris Lange, who was my band director for 4 years at Central School in Effingham. All of these fine ladies were no doubt affected by Dorene's influence and love for music. Sad to say I never was able to meet her. My condolences to the family.

Dorene and I taught together for many years in the Effingham system. We also were sisters in Alpha Delta Kappa. She was a fine lady, excellent teacher - always had that extra bit of assistance for every child- spoke of her family all of the time! and was such a sweet individual. When needed she was a rock of responsibility and strength, but also a kind and gentle heart. My condolences to the family.

Dorene Jones was my music teacher in 3rd/4th grade at South Side School, Effingham. She was fun, friendly, and a very good vocalist and pianist. She taught with a love and respect for music and creativity. She and several other music teachers in Effingham at that time were inspirations for me. Because of teachers like Dorene, I earned a music degree and masters degree, and just retired this year from teaching music in the Effingham district. Prayers to the families.
