Steve Marie Bernadette McGarrett, 60 of Salem passed away at her home on Sunday, February 9, 2020. Steve was born on August 26, 1959 in Salem the daughter of Robert Roy and Altrus B. (Medder) Shehorn. Survivors include one sister, Freida B. Smith of Salem; two brothers, Robert Shehorn and wife Joann of Salem and Tommie Ray Shehorn and wife Linda of Iuka; one nephew, Adam E. Smith of Salem; and one niece, Rachel Holmes and husband Tyus of Alma. She was preceded in death by maternal grandparents, Clarence and Rada (Wolfe) Medder; paternal grandparents, Cecil Elmer and Violet (Howard) Shehorn; parents, Robert Roy and Altus B. (Medder) Shehorn; and several aunts and uncles. Steve was a member of the Palestine Church. She graduated from Franklin Park and Salem Community High School. She worked for Wayfair Nursing Home in Fairfield and later babysat for the neighborhood kids in Romine Township. She loved her pets very much. Graveside services will be held on Tuesday, February 11, 2020 at 1:00 pm at the Palestine Cemetery in Iuka with Luke Johnson officiating. Memorials can be made to the American Heart Association or the animal shelter of your choice and can be left at Crouse Funeral Home.
