Billy Burroughs, age 88 of Mt. Vernon formerly of Salem, passed away on Friday January 24, 2020 at Deaconess Midtown Hospital in Evansville, Indiana. Billy was born on June 6, 1931 in Iuka, Illinois to Harry L. and Leah (Waller) Burroughs. Survivors include a son, John Burroughs of Mt. Vernon; a daughter, Susan Fredrick of Springfield, MO; brother, Bob Burroughs and wife Arnelle of Salem; and grandchildren, Leah and Clay. Billy was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Archie and Raymond Burroughs, and a sister, Ruby Butler. He served in the United States Marines during the Korean Conflict. He was a farmer and had previously worked as a lathe operator at Caterpillar. Graveside services will be held on Monday January 27, 2020 at 1:00pm at East Lawn Cemetery in Salem with Phil Martin officiating. There will be Military rites by the Centralia American Legion Post 446 and Centralia VFW Post 2055. Memorial gifts may given to the Salem First Christian Church or the Shriner’s Hospital for Children and can be left at Crouse Funeral Home in Salem, who is assisting the family with arrangements.
