Justine “Sue” Smith, age 73 of Salem, passed away on Monday, March 2, 2020 at Salem Township Hospital. Sue was born on May 26, 1946 in Salem the daughter of Alois and Mary (Uchitjil) Booher. She married Stanley Smith on November 26, 1967 at Trinity United Methodist Church in Salem and he survives in Salem. In addition to her husband Stanley, she is survived by her mother, Mary Booher of Salem; son, Steven Smith of Salem; brother, Ray Booher of Salem; sisters, Judy Gergeni and husband Roger of Indianapolis, IN, June Klawitter and husband Ron of Berger, MO, Connie Howard and husband Keith of West Frankfort, Joyce Deming and husband Chris of London, KY, Elaine Henson and husband Eldon of Wentzville, MO and Treva Cole and husband David of Marion; brother-in-law, Lonnie Smith and wife Katheryn of Effingham; sister-in-law, Anna Wright and husband Merle of Iuka; and five grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her father, Alois Booher and son, Jason Smith. Sue worked for Illinois Power/Ameren for 26 years as a meter reader and later a meter changer. She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Salem. Funeral Services for Justine “Sue” Smith will be held on Saturday, March 7, 2020 at 11:00 am at Crouse Funeral Home in Salem with Pastor Doug Meyer officiating. Visitation will be from 9:00 am until the time of the service. Burial will be in Iuka Cemetery.
